He also partners with sea turtle biologists and the Hawaii Wildlife Fund to monitor and protect fragile nesting beaches, helping safeguard endangered hawksbill and green sea turtles as the next generation of hatchlings makes its journey to the sea.

Jason's photography has earned permanent placement at the NOAA Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center, a state-of-the-art, 350,000-square-foot facility on Oʻahu's historic Ford Island in Pearl Harbor. His work is also featured at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., reflecting the scientific and artistic significance of his imagery.

Deep Local Roots:

Originally a scuba instructor, he transitioned to a full-time staff photographer for a national magazine in 2001, documenting the people, landscapes, and wildlife that make Maui unique. In 2010, he joined NOAA's whale research team as an in-water photographer, where he became the team's primary drone pilot and the second person in the world to successfully tag a humpback whale using a drone.

His decades of experience working in close proximity to humpback whales and other marine life, combined with thousands of hours photographing every corner of Maui, have given him an intimate understanding of the islands.
